MAWHCC Scholarship Program Qualifications and Expectations

MAWHCC SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

• Be a legal citizen of the USA

• Be a current MAWHCC member (dues paid) for at least 1 year prior to applying

• Be an active member by participating in MAWHCC fundraisers, activities, meetings, committees or volunteer work involving Hawaiian cultural or academic studies or other Hawaiian related activities

• Minimum GPA required in order to apply:  2.0     

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT ALONG WITH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

• Unofficial Transcript or Grade Report of high school or college grades

• Two letters of recommendation (personal, work or teachers) for new applicants

• Copy of formal admission letter and/or class schedule from the college, university or vocational school

• Short essay of your degree intent and career goal and how this scholarship will assist you in meeting it.  The essay will be submitted in the online application form. It is recommended you use a word processing program then copy and paste your essay into the application form.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT EXPECTATIONS

• Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA or 3.0 GPA if enrolled in a Graduate program.  NOTE:  If a recipient drops out of school the recipient will request of their school for any scholarship monies awarded to them to be refunded and payable to MAWHCC Scholarship Fund.

• Continue to be a current (dues paid) and active member of MAWHCC and/or the Hawaiian community in WA state.  If not possible to participate due to time or geographic distance, designated family or friends may volunteer in your stead.

• Submit grade report of unofficial transcript and a brief written progress report at the end of each term along with a copy of next term’s class schedule to the Scholarship Committee chairperson at scholarships@mawhcc.org.
